I get ‘could not write value to printer EEPROM. Printer communication error’ message when using WIC utility.

This error message means Your printer can’t communicate with the computer. It may be caused by software and hardware reasons. We recomend You to check this possible reasons list:

  1. Please check if You have documents to print in the que. Delete all printer jobs.
  2. Please be sure you have disabled Your antivirus and firewall software.
Or You can allow Your antivirus program to use WIC utility on Your PC.
  3. Please disable Epson Status Monitor Utility and other Epson utilities communicating by USB port.
  4. Check if you have latest version of WIC Reset utility – when run WIC – it checks if there is newest version.
  5. You have not proper USB cable, please try to change it.
Connect printer with proper USB cable – it must be thick and short. Long cables may not work perfect.
Please change USB cable even if you use it for printing. For printing – you can use very simple and cheap cable, but for WIC Reset Utility you have to use good quality USB cable.
  6. Maybe You have docking station and printer is connected NOT directly to PC port.
Remove the docking station and I connect the printer directly to the PC or laptop.
  7. No WiFi or LAN connection will work. USB only!
  8. There is a lot of USB devices connected to the PC?
Please disconnect all USB devices except your printer. Disconnect all USB devices. Connect printer only.
  9. Other programs can prevent to communicate your printer driver with OS.
Shut all USB utilities, printer utilities, Epson Status Monitor Utility and other programs that may use printer usb connection and may prevent to establish direct connection for WIC – PC.
  10. Click on “Refresh detected printers list” button and check printer model You need to reset (if you have few printers connected).
  11. After all – reboot PC and restart Your printer. Run WIC utility.

Here are listed all possible reasons for this problem our customers ever informed us.
Hope this helps!

Paper Jam message. How to reset or solve this problem?

Problem:

You have “Paper Jam” error message.

paper jam epson printer

That means can’t “see” the paper is going in printer and nothing prevents.
Possible reasons may be:
1. An obstacles that prevent the paper to go down. There may be some parts of paper inside the printer or other parts.
2. Some broken paper feed parts or spring connector.
3. Fading Paper Feeder Rubber.
4. Some paper feed sensors inside the printer need to be checked. They can be broken or dirty.

Solution:

You have to disassemble the printer and check all paper feed sensors:
1. PW Sensor (at the bottom of the printhead carriage). It can be dirty with ink and paper dust. Need to uninstall, clean and dry.
2. PE Sensor – check and clean.
3. CR Encoder Sensor – check the encoder strip and clean it if it is dirty.
4. PF Encode Sensor – check round encoder and clean if it is dirty.
5. PG Sensor – check and clean.

How much ink does your printer waste?

How much ink does your printer waste?

How much waste ink

If you only use your printer occasionally, you could be using more than six times as much ink as you would printing the same number of pages in one go.

Ink is wasted when a printer runs a cleaning cycle, often as it is switched on, which means that less of the ink you buy ends up on the page.

The result is that you’ll need to replace your ink cartridges more frequently, paying high prices for ink that you’ll never even get to use.

Which? tests uncover the scale of ink waste

Our tests have found a dramatic difference between the amount of ink your printer gets through when it’s printing occasionally over a period of weeks, either switched off in between or left in standby, and when it’s printing the same amount all in one go.

The results below show just some of the shocking differences in ink use we’ve encountered in our lab tests. The figures show the difference between printing 50 sheets of colour graphics continuously (all in one go) versus occasionally (over a period of weeks, with the printer either switched off or left on in between prints).

Prices are based on typical cartridge costs for each brand.

As the graphic above shows, there are huge differences in the amount of ink you’ll get through depending on whether you’re a frequent or occasional printer, and whether you leave your printer off or on between jobs.

How can you save on your printer ink?

Nobody wants to store up all their printing to do it in one go just because it’s more efficient. So what’s the best alternative – leaving a printer on or off between prints?

Our tests found that it’s not always the case that leaving a printer in standby is a better option than switching it off altogether.

The HP printer we tested wasted less ink if you didn’t switch it off between prints. The Canon and Epson printers wasted less ink when we turned the printers off in between, instead of leaving them in standby.

If your printer sounds like it’s cleaning its heads every time you turn it on from cold, it may be cheaper to leave it switched on permanently and let it power down itself into sleep mode.

How much energy is wasted leaving a printer on?

Leaving any device on around the clock may seem like a waste of electricity, which is why we measure the energy use of printers in our lab.

If you left the HP Officejet Pro 8500a Plus eAIO in its sleep mode after printing, rather than turning it fully off, it would cost you roughly £2.54 a year in electricity. This can work out cheaper than having the printer waste ink when you switch the printer on, given the cost of buying new cartridges.
